Catalpa Worms

I had to look up how to spell catalpa because until a few weeks ago my family (minus Dane of course) was clueless to what they were. Dane took the kids (I sat in the truck and took pictures) to catch catalpa worms. Paige was totally into it; Brady not so much but he looked cute trying.

And for those who care and are bored:

The catalpa caterpillar is tough in texture. The worm oozes a bright fluorescent green fluid that smells sweet when put on a hook. The tough skin makes for staying hooked and a fresh worm will attract fish with its smell and its wiggle. It is revered as the best fish bait to be found naturally. Catalpa worms can be preserved alive by placing them in cornmeal packed in an air tight container and frozen. It has been said that when this container is opened and the worms are removed from the meal, they thaw and become active and as effective in catching fish as ever. Another method of preserving the caterpillar for future use is "pickling" them in a baby food jar filled with corn syrup. The jar should be immediately stored in a refrigerator and has an indefinite shelf life.

Don't we feel smarter!

Seashells by the Seashore

We took a quick (less than 24 hours) camping trip with Papa Gene and Grandma Kris. Here are some pictures from that crazy excursion!

Pure Jubilation!

I love it when photos actually capture what the kids are feeling. This one nailed it.

Hanging out with the Philpott Goats at the Fair last night...make bigger for better affect.

Miss. Independent

Where has the time gone? Paige has started Pre-K and is loving it. Brady is having trouble adjusting but I think secretly he likes the non-Paige time. :) Here is her with her lunch on day one.

Vacation Photos

I am having blogger issues but wanted to post some pictures from our July lake vacation. Here is the link to my sister's blog and I think she sums up our time perfectly.

4 Dollars and 36 Cents

I remember exactly how much the plants/seeds cost for Paige's garden project because Dane and I had the conversation "well, at least we are only out $4.36 if it doesn't grow". Well, let's just say "it" has grown and we will be busy picking most of the summer. Last night was our first harvest and Paige was super excited.
Kayla shares her harvest with Paige. :)

Brady Boy

It is hard to believe but we are approaching Brady's 2 year birthday. Just wanted to post a couple pics of him we took before church last Sunday. Who do you think he looks like? :)
